Recycling the unrecyclable. (TerraCycle for Beauty).
When was the last time you really thought about your daily beauty routine and its impact on the environment? Whether it be super simple or a complex order of events, you are most likely going through a few tubes, sticks, jars, sprays, and pump dispensers of product for your skin, hair and body.
You may put some of these in the recycling bin, but only 15% of plastic packaging is effectively recycled (latest stats from the ABS). The rest winds up in landfill.
When it comes to beauty products, a lot of complex custom packaging can’t be processed by local councils.
There is a way to minimise this.
A great option is TerraCycle. An innovative waste management company with a mission to eliminate the idea of waste. They take hard to recycle items that would otherwise end up in landfill or incinerated and turn these into new products or packaging.
In good news, a lot of retailers are already partnering with TerraCycle and collecting empty containers and providing a discount to customers as an incentive. Just ask your favourite brands if they have a programme next time you are in-store.
You can also purchase your own TerraCycle box for the home or the office. You can buy boxes for specific recycling waste (like Beauty waste) or an All-in-One Zero Waste box. They take anything from soft plastics, batteries, to electrical goods. The waste is then converted into new and useful products instead of ending up in our oceans or in landfill.
A small change in our behaviour can make a big impact on the footprint we leave behind.
All Flavedo & Albedo products can be recycled in your kerbside mixed recycling bin. Just remember to pop out the cork liner from your High Glow lids first. Throw the cork disc straight into your garden or compost.
If you’re ever unsure on how or where to recycle our packaging, please contact us email@example.com and we’ll happily help.
